This policy explains what information Virtual Merlin collects through this website, www.vmerlin.com, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect very little.
The short version
- We only collect what you type into our contact, download and software idea forms.
- We use it to reply to you, to provide the software you download, and to contact you about that software.
- We never sell or rent your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
- This site doesn't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers.
What we collect
When you contact us
The contact form asks for your name, email address, company (optional), the services or software you're interested in (optional) and your message.
When you download software
Before a download starts, we ask for your full name, email address and company (optional). We also record which app and version you downloaded, when, and, for beta software, that you acknowledged the beta terms.
When you suggest a software idea
The idea form asks for your name, email address, your idea and, if you like, a name for the app.
Information stored in your browser
To save you retyping, your browser remembers the name, email and company you last entered in the download form. That copy stays on your device and is not sent to us unless you submit the form again. You can remove it by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Technical information
Like any website, our hosting provider receives technical details with each request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, and keeps them in short-term logs used for security and troubleshooting.
How we use it
- To answer your enquiry and discuss the work you've asked about, or the software idea you sent us.
- To provide the software you request.
- To contact you about software you downloaded. For beta software, this includes the email about buying a license that we send on January 1, 2027.
- To keep the website secure and working.
We never sell, rent or trade your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Services that help us run the site
We use a small number of providers to run this website. They process information only as needed to provide their service to us:
- Vercel hosts the website and runs its forms.
- Resend delivers form submissions to our inbox by email.
- Microsoft 365 hosts our email, where form submissions are kept.
- GitHub serves the software files when a download starts, and receives your IP address as part of that request.
- Google Fonts supplies the site's typefaces, so your browser requests font files from Google when pages load.
These providers may process information in the United States or other countries.
How long we keep it
We keep form submissions for as long as we need them for the purposes above, for example while we're working with you, or while you use software you downloaded from us, and as required for our business records. You can ask us to delete your information sooner.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can ask us to stop contacting you at any time. Email support@vmerlin.com and we'll respond promptly. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy law.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and form submissions go only to our own inbox. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, but we limit what we collect and who can see it.
Children
This website is intended for businesses and IT professionals and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Our software
This policy covers this website. Each of our Windows apps describes how it handles data in its own documentation.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update it on this page and change the effective date above.
